Measles Alert in Harrisonburg: What You Need to Know
Health officials in Virginia said a measles case showed up in Harrisonburg. The sickness was linked to a local shop called Fair Hill Precision, which fixes hydraulic cylinders. The shop is at 4445 Lewis Byrd Road. People who were there on Monday, October 12 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. or Tuesday, October 13 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. might have been exposed.
If you were at the shop during those times, the health department asks you to fill out a quick online survey. This helps them know who might need follow‑up. Next, check if you have had the measles vaccine (MMR) or if you had the disease before. Two shots or being born before 1957 means you are likely protected. If you are not sure about your vaccine status, call your doctor or use the VDH record request site.
Watch for signs of measles for three weeks after the possible contact. Look for fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and a rash that starts on the face and spreads. If you notice any of these, stay home and call your healthcare provider right away. When you call, tell them you might have been exposed so they can warn the clinic staff and keep others safe.
The earliest you could feel sick is around October 19, 2026, and the latest is about November 3, 2026. Most people already have immunity from vaccination, so the chance of a big outbreak is low. Still, it is smart to stay informed and act quickly if you think you were exposed.
