Measles Alert in Los Angeles: What You Need to Know
Los Angeles County, California, Burbank, USAThu Jun 25 2026
Los Angeles County has recorded its seventh measles case this year. The illness came from a traveler who landed at Hollywood Burbank Airport on June 17 after flying from Phoenix. The person was contagious while inside the county.
People who were at Gate A4 between 8:45 a. m. and 9:45 a. m. on that day might have caught the virus. Health officials are coordinating with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to reach out to passengers who sat nearby.
The same traveler may have exposed others at a car‑rental office in Burbank. The dates and times of possible contact were June 17 from 9:20 a. m. to 10:20 a. m. , and June 18 from 10:25 a. m. to 11:25 a. m.
If someone does not show symptoms after 21 days, they are no longer considered at risk. The final day to watch for signs is July 2. Those who have had two doses of the MMR vaccine are 97 % protected; a single dose gives 93 % protection.
Typical measles symptoms are high fever, cough, runny nose, red watery eyes, and a rash that starts on the face and spreads. The rash usually appears 3–5 days after other symptoms begin.
Anyone who notices these signs should call a doctor before going to a clinic and mention the possible exposure. The county stresses that vaccinated people are safe, while those who have not been immunized face higher danger.
In the U. S. , 2, 104 measles cases were reported in 2026. Most affected are people who are unvaccinated or unsure of their vaccination status. About 6 % of cases required hospital care.
Travelers heading to Mexico should be cautious, as the country reports over 18, 440 measles cases this year.
