Measles Alert: Traveler Brings Virus Home to Maryland
Maryland, USAMon Mar 10 2025
A recent case of measles has been confirmed in Howard County, Maryland. This case is linked to a resident who had recently traveled internationally. Health officials are quick to point out that this case is not connected to the ongoing measles outbreak in Texas and New Mexico. So, there's no need to panic. This is a good reminder that measles is still out there, and it can travel with people who are not vaccinated.
The infected individual visited several public places during the contagious period. These include the international arrivals area at Washington Dulles International Airport on March 5th between 4 p. m. and 9 p. m. and the Pediatric Emergency Department at Johns Hopkins Howard County Medical Center on March 7th from 3:30 p. m. to 7:30 p. m. Anyone who was in these locations during these times might have been exposed to the virus.
Health officials are working hard to identify and contact people who might have been exposed. This includes passengers on specific flights and visitors to the mentioned locations. If you think you might have been exposed, it's important to take action. Contact your healthcare provider for advice.
