Washington, USASat Nov 16 2024
The Washington Wizards have big hopes for their new rookie, Alex Sarr. Picked second in this year's NBA Draft, Sarr is seen as a future cornerstone for the team. But his journey hasn't been without bumps. In the Summer League, he struggled, going 0 for 15 against the Trail Blazers. Fans quickly dubbed him a "bust, " but he's showing improvement now. Wizards insider Chase Hughes noted he's set a franchise record with three consecutive games of 2+ blocks in the regular season. Let's dive into Sarr's background.
Sarr was born in Bordeaux, France, on April 26, 2005. Raised in Bordeaux and later Toulouse, he's a French national. His heritage, however, is Senegalese. Both his parents, Massar and Marie Sarr, are from Senegal and were professional basketball players. His father Massar played professionally and passed on his love for the game to Alex and his older brother, Olivier.
Olivier, also a professional basketball player, has a two-way deal with the Oklahoma City Thunder. Both siblings started playing basketball at a young age, guided by their father. Under his mentorship, both Alex and Olivier have grown into successful basketball players. Sarr has represented France at various youth levels, bringing accolades to the nation.
