At the recent CES, Nvidia showcased its AI capabilities, aiming to make gaming more immersive. However, the results weren't quite there yet. Take the AI "Ally" in PUBG: Battlegrounds, for example. This AI companion can talk back to you, but it's not always helpful. In a demo, the AI took too long to assist and even ran off when its human partner was in trouble.
Nvidia also demonstrated AI for other games, like ZooPunk, where an AI character had trouble following simple instructions. It turned a spaceship orange instead of purple and mixed up images for a decal. The real potential, though, seemed to lie in Nvidia's desktop companion apps, like G-Assist, a chatbot that can adjust settings and provide performance graphs.
But Nvidia's AI still has a long way to go. It needs to be more useful and less annoying. An AI head for streamers was surprisingly rude, and a talking mannequin head on your desktop felt more creepy than helpful. These AI characters are like rough drafts that need a lot more fine-tuning.
