Meet the New Man Utd Coach: Ruben Amorim's Journey So Far
Manchester, UKTue Nov 12 2024
Portuguese football coach Ruben Amorim landed in Manchester on Tuesday morning to begin meetings with Manchester United's key football staff. The 39-year-old arrived at United's training base in Carrington, accompanied by some of his backroom staff, including assistants Carlos Fernandes, Adelio Candido, and Emanuel Ferro, goalkeeping coach Jorge Vital, and sports scientist Paulo Barreira.
Amorim's journey to Manchester started on Sunday night with a stunning comeback win over Braga, where he led Sporting Lisbon to a 4-2 victory. However, before he can dive into training sessions at Carrington, Amorim has to wait for his visa confirmation.
Manchester United chiefs expect the Portuguese coach and his staff to officially start working within a couple of days. Amorim's appointment comes after several key staff changes, including the departure of interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy, who served without a loss for four games. Other staff who have left to make way for Amorim include Rene Hake, Jelle ten Rouwelaar, and Pieter Morel.
Most Manchester United players are currently on international duty and will return in the middle of next week. Amorim's first game as their manager will be against Ipswich Town on November 24th. Many pundits are already debating his tactical choices, wondering if his preferred 3-4-3 formation will work for United.
United chiefs are backing Amorim's plans and expect significant changes in the January transfer window to strengthen the squad for the second half of the season.
