Meghan and Harry Step In: Helping Wildfire Victims in LA

In the midst of the devastating wildfires sweeping through Los Angeles, an unlikely duo made a surprise appearance to offer support. Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, showed up at the Pasadena Convention Center, which had been turned into an evacuation site. They were there to lend a helping hand to those affected by the blazes. The couple spent time with World Central Kitchen (WCK) founder José Andrés and his team. WCK has been providing free meals to emergency crews and victims, thanks to a long-standing partnership with the Sussexes' Archewell Foundation. Meghan and Harry didn't just stop at the distribution center. They also made their way to impacted areas to see the damage firsthand and meet with families. They even visited first responders to express their gratitude for their hard work. Pasadena Mayor Victor Gordo described them as "great people" who had "really buoyed the spirits" of those at the center. Earlier in the day, the duo had quietly served food, wearing face masks to avoid recognition. Gordo emphasized that their visit wasn't a publicity stunt. "They came out here to work, " he said. The couple has been living in Montecito, about 90 miles from Los Angeles, since they relocated to the U. S. in 2020. Despite some progress in fighting the fires, over 100, 000 residents remain under evacuation orders. At least 11 people have died, but the actual toll is uncertain until authorities can safely access all areas. Meghan and Harry have been actively involved in supporting the community. They've donated essential supplies and even offered their home to evacuees. On their website, they shared resources for affected families and urged people to help however they can. "If a friend, loved one, or pet has to evacuate and you are able to offer them a safe haven in your home, please do, " they wrote. They also encouraged people to donate essential items and support organizations like the American Red Cross.
