Melco’s 2025 Green Goals: A Fresh Look at Progress

Macau, ChinaTue May 05 2026
The company that runs popular resorts in Macau, the Philippines and Europe has released a new sustainability report for 2025. The title “RISE to Go Above & Beyond” signals a shift from talking about goals to showing real action. In the report, the CEO explains that sustainability is no longer a side project; it’s woven into everyday operations. Employees, suppliers and partners all share the same mission to improve the planet while running profitable businesses. Melco uses a “double materiality” method, meaning it looks at how environmental issues affect the company and how the company’s actions influence the environment. The report aligns with international climate guidelines and has had all its greenhouse gas data verified by an outside party. Key achievements include saving more than 71 million kilowatt‑hours of electricity each year, which equals the power used by over ten thousand homes. Water use fell by 290, 000 cubic metres a year – enough to fill 116 Olympic pools. Solar panels on the resorts now produce nearly 10, 000 megawatt‑hours annually, enough to light 1, 900 homes.
The fleet of vehicles is now mostly electric or hybrid, with 154 charging stations spread across the properties. Recycling and composting have risen from 4% to 18%, and more than 1, 400 tonnes of food waste were turned into compost. A new AI system helped cut plate waste by 4% in dining areas. Community work is a priority too. Over 4, 100 staff volunteered in almost 500 activities worldwide. The company ran sports programs for more than 700 employees and offered mental‑health seminars to the same group. Training hours surpassed 763, 000 across more than 1, 400 courses, with nearly 783, 000 staff enrolling. Financial contributions to local communities reached $19 million, supporting small businesses and cultural projects. Supply‑chain efforts saw 100% of bedding fabrics certified safe, 80% of chemicals labeled green or amber, and most eggs sourced from cage‑free farms. At the board level, a new committee for environmental and social responsibility was created in 2025. The company also upgraded its cyber‑security systems, adding advanced threat detection tools to protect data worldwide. External ratings reflect the progress: a 66‑point score from S&P Global, high marks in climate and water assessments, and “Excellent” design ratings for new resort phases. The company remains committed to climate‑friendly growth while keeping its resorts popular with guests.
