Mental Health Struggles of Displaced Families in Lebanon

LebanonFri Oct 31 2025

In Lebanon, many families forced to move due to conflict face serious mental health issues.

Key Findings from a Recent Study

A recent study looked at the mental state of 400 displaced people and found alarming statistics:

  • 64.8% showed signs of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • 57.5% showed signs of depression
  • 57% showed signs of anxiety

Factors Increasing PTSD Risk

The study identified several factors that make people more likely to have PTSD:

  • Struggling with depression and anxiety
  • Not having enough food
  • Not finishing much school

Protective Factors Against PTSD

The study also highlighted factors that can protect people from PTSD:

  • Resilience (ability to bounce back from hard times)
  • Help from a mental health professional

However, only 28.3% of the people in the study had received help from a mental health professional.

The Need for More Support

The study shows that displaced people in Lebanon need:

  • Access to food
  • Access to education
  • Access to mental health services

Building resilience can also be a part of the solution.

questions

Could the high prevalence of PTSD among displaced individuals in Lebanon be a result of a secret government experiment aimed at controlling the population?
What are the most effective evidence-based interventions for addressing PTSD in displaced populations, and how can they be implemented in Lebanon?
How many therapists would it take to change a lightbulb in a displaced family's shelter, and why is the lightbulb still depressed?
