Miami's New Defensive Coach: A Costly Bet with High Hopes
Miami, USATue Jan 14 2025
Mario Cristobal, the coach of the Miami Hurricanes, has a big task ahead. His team missed the playoffs last season due to a weak defense. So, he decided to make a change. He fired the defensive coordinator and hired a new one, Corey Hetherman, from the Minnesota Golden Gophers. Hetherman did a great job improving Minnesota's defense, and Cristobal hopes he can do the same for Miami.
The catch? Hiring Hetherman cost Miami a lot of money. Hetherman had a contract with Minnesota, and Miami had to pay a big fee to get him. But, there was a loophole. If the team hiring Hetherman wasn't from the Big 10 conference, the fee was much lower. So, Miami paid less, but still a lot.
Miami also signed a new quarterback, Carson Beck. With these changes, the team hopes to do better this season. They want to reach the playoffs, and a better defense could help with that. Only time will tell if these changes will work out.
