Well, the day after Donald Trump's big win, "Weekend Update" co-anchor Michael Che had a few things to say – and a drink to help him along. He couldn't believe people thought Pennsylvania would vote for a candidate he referred to as the "Jamaican Indian lady. " That’s right, Michael was talking about Karma – oh, wait, he meant Kamala Harris. He thought rural Pennsylvania would've picked her, but boy, was he wrong! Trump was so far ahead, it felt like they had LeBron James' son, Bronny, in the voting booth.
His partner in comedy, Colin Jost, also had some good-natured jabs. He poked fun at Trump’s promises of a golden age for America, hinting that golden eras usually mark the end of something, not the beginning. He also brought up Vice President-elect JD Vance’s background as an adult Catholic convert, comparing it to his own time as a teenage altar boy.
Michael, however, took it a step further. He mentioned R&B singer R. Kelly, who was convicted of sexual abuse, and said, “If people can vote for someone with 34 felonies, I’ll start listening to R. Kelly again. ” He admitted he already did, but now he’d be open about it. “I’m not hiding it anymore, ” he said. “If they can vote for their felon, I can listen to mine. ”
Finally, Michael pointed out that within hours of Trump’s victory, the wealthiest people on Earth gained a staggering $60 billion. He laughingly told the audience not to worry, their turn to gain wealth was coming soon – just call them Earl!
