Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USAMon Apr 27 2026
The night of the NFL draft in Pittsburgh was turned on its head when Michael Keaton, a lifelong supporter of the local team, appeared on stage to announce the Steelers’ pick.
Keaton grew up in Kennedy Township near Pittsburgh before moving to Los Angeles, where he launched a career that includes roles in film and television.
His early work even linked him to the city’s beloved children’s show “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, ” and he later hosted memorials for the late Fred Rogers.
During the fifth round of the draft, Keaton revealed that Pittsburgh chose tight end Riley Nowakowski from Indiana University as their 169th overall selection.
The draft event itself drew a record crowd of 805, 000 fans over three days, surpassing the previous high set by Detroit in 2024.
Other local stars such as rapper Wiz Khalifa and rock singer Bret Michaels joined the festivities, performing together on the second night.
The first overall pick of the draft was Indiana University quarterback Fernando Mendoza, who led his team to a perfect season and a national title; he is expected to bring new energy to the struggling Las Vegas Raiders.
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Rams surprised many by selecting Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson at number 13, positioning him as a potential successor to veteran Matthew Stafford.
