Michigan Muslims Share Their Story at Library Talk
Saginaw Michigan, USAWed Apr 22 2026
A friendly evening will take place on May 7 when Imam Robert Shaheed talks about the history of Islam in Michigan. The talk starts at 6:30 p. m. in the Hoyt Library and is free for anyone who wants to learn.
Imam Shaheed has been a leader at the Islamic Center of Saginaw for more than four decades. Since 1986 he has guided worship, organized community events and helped people from different backgrounds come together. His long experience gives him a deep understanding of how Muslims in Michigan grew and changed over time.
The discussion is aimed at adults, but it welcomes anyone curious about the faith. Because the library can only hold a limited number of people, interested listeners should sign up ahead of time. Registration is easy: you can do it online or call the library at 989‑755‑0904.
This event is a chance to hear firsthand how Islamic traditions were brought to Michigan and how the Muslim community has woven itself into the local culture. It also offers a space for questions, reflections and sharing of personal experiences.
The library hopes to create an open conversation that builds bridges between the Muslim community and the wider public. Those who attend will leave with a clearer picture of Michigan’s religious diversity.
