Michigan's Wild Weather: Snowy Surprises Ahead
Michigan's weather is about to get interesting, with a mix of snow and changing winds. The Saginaw Bay area is in for a surprise, with heavy snow expected to pile up to six inches in some spots. This isn't your typical lake-effect snow, though. The winds are shifting, bringing snow to unusual places.
Early Morning Dusting
Early this morning, a light dusting of snow covered the grass in southeast Michigan, including Ann Arbor and parts of Detroit. But that's just the beginning.
Afternoon Snowfall
The real action starts this afternoon, with heavy snow expected in:
- Downtown Bay City
- Essexville
- Saginaw
- Buena Vista
- Frankenmuth
- Reese
The snow will be short-lived, with most of it melting quickly. However, in some areas, like the southwest corner of Saginaw County, around Chesaning, there could be a sharp contrast, with some places seeing up to six inches of snow while others see little to none.
Other Areas Affected
But Saginaw Bay isn't the only place getting snow. Three other areas can expect heavy snow through sunrise Tuesday:
- Tonight: South end of Lake Michigan, including Niles
- Monday: Northwest Lower Michigan, including Traverse City
Driving Advisory
Driving through these snowy areas? It's best to wait until mid-morning or afternoon, when sunshine can warm the pavement and make roads safer. But don't expect a quick warm-up after this snow. It might take a few days for six inches of snow to melt.
Winter Outlook
And don't worry, this isn't the start of a harsh winter. There are still a couple of weeks left for mild afternoons in the 40s, 50s, and maybe even a 60-degree day.
