Mickey Mantle Card Goes Live on eBay‑Owned Site
Dallas, TX, USA,Fri May 29 2026
Topps has been busy preparing a special 2026 baseball set that will celebrate its 75th year of card making. The highlight is a 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle card, one of the most prized sports cards ever made. Instead of hiding it in a pack, Topps decided to keep the original card safe and offer a special redemption card that can be exchanged for the real one.
A listing appeared on Goldin, an e‑commerce platform owned by eBay that focuses on sports collectibles. The card is not in any of the 40 million standard packs; it can only be obtained by buying the redemption card. Topps confirmed that the listing is real and said they were only just made aware of it.
Collectors have a very slim chance to win the card, because the odds are roughly one in 40 million. Despite that, buyers have already started bidding. At the end of Thursday, the highest bid reached $36 000 and there were eight offers in total. The price is expected to climb higher as more people see the listing.
The 1952 Mantle card has a long history of high prices. In 2023, a PSA‑graded 1 sold for $35 000, while a PSA‑4 fetched $132 000. A few years earlier, a card graded 9 by PSA sold for $5. 2 million, and an SGC‑graded 9. 5 once reached $12. 5 million. The card’s rarity comes from the fact that many originals were lost in a river after being overprinted, so only a few remain.
Topps will provide a graded version of the card when it is redeemed. The company has not said how good the grading will be, but even a low‑grade original can command huge sums. The redemption card itself expires on February 11, 2036.
