Microsoft has delayed the rollout of its “Recall” feature for Copilot Plus PCs for the third time. This AI-powered feature was supposed to revolutionize how users back up their computer activities on Windows 11. Initially teased earlier this year, Recall will use local AI models built into Windows 11 on Copilot Plus PCs, which run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite chips. The feature promises to create a secure, encrypted timeline of everything users see and do on their computers.
The delay is reportedly due to Microsoft needing more time to refine the experience. Brandon LeBlanc, senior product manager of Windows, stated that the company is committed to delivering a secure and trusted experience with Recall. He mentioned that the feature will be available for preview with Windows Insiders on Copilot Plus PCs by December. Recall is designed to work only on Copilot Plus PCs with an encrypted system or boot drive and a TPM version 2. 0 enabled. It will not be mandatory and can be fully uninstalled by users.
