Mindful Moves: How Games and Meditation Help Seniors Manage Diabetes
TaiwanSun Nov 16 2025
In Taiwan, a recent study looked at how mindfulness and fun activities can help older adults with type 2 diabetes. The focus was on improving their health and well-being.
Researchers worked with 82 seniors from two hospitals. They split them into two groups. One group got the usual diabetes care. The other group got something extra: an 8-week program. This program mixed diet and exercise games with mindfulness practices.
The idea was to combine external wisdom (like games) with internal wisdom (like meditation). The goal was to see if this mix could make a difference in how people managed their diabetes.
After 8 weeks and again 3 months later, the researchers checked in. They looked at things like how people felt, how they communicated, and how well they managed their diabetes. They also checked HbA1C levels, which show blood sugar control over time.
The results were promising. The group that did the mindfulness and games showed bigger improvements. They had better communication, better self-management, and lower HbA1C levels. This suggests that adding mindfulness and fun activities to diabetes care can be helpful.
But here's a thought: why stop at diabetes? Could this approach work for other health issues too? It's something to think about.
