Thu Oct 03 2024
Ryan Charpentier, a 33-year-old from Little Canada, Minn. , has been sentenced to prison time for his role in an armed robbery that took place in Barron County, Wis. On July 19, 2024, Charpentier pleaded guilty to the crime and was given a sentence of five years in prison plus seven more years of extended supervision. The incident occurred on December 19, 2023, when Charpentier and another suspect entered an elderly man's home through an unlocked side door, armed with handguns. They demanded money from the victim and used force to get their way.
The two men forced the elderly victim into his living room, binding his hands and feet with zip ties and rope before pushing him onto the floor. At some point during the ordeal, the victim was also tasered in the face. To avoid further harm, the victim complied when the robbers demanded access to two gun safes they found in the home. They made off with a substantial amount of cash, ranging from $13,000 to $14,000, along with guns, jewelry, and other valuable items.
This incident raises concerns about the safety of elderly individuals living alone. It's crucial for communities to look out for one another and ensure that homes are secure against potential intruders. The sentence handed down to Charpentier serves as a reminder that such acts of violence will not be tolerated and will result in severe consequences.
