Minnesota faced a serious snowstorm over the weekend. It left a lot of snow and made driving very dangerous. The weather service reported that Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport got 5. 8 inches of snow. Other places like Chanhassen had 5. 6 inches, Brainerd saw 3. 5 inches, and Eau Claire, Wisconsin, got the most with 8. 5 inches.
People around the state measured the snow too. Rochester got 4 inches, Burnsville had 7 inches, and Maple Grove saw 6. 2 inches. Fargo-Moorhead got 4. 5 inches, while Duluth had the least with 2. 1 inches.
Because of the snow, some cities like Minneapolis, St. Louis Park, and Osseo had snow emergencies. Many schools were also closed or delayed on Monday.
The roads were still very bad on Monday. The state transportation department said most roads in the metro area were covered in snow. They advised people not to travel in central and southern Minnesota. Interstate 35 was even closed between Albert Lea and the Iowa border because of whiteout conditions.
The state patrol reported nearly 400 crashes on state roads between Sunday night and Monday morning. Out of these, 31 crashes involved injuries.
Gov. Tim Walz declared a peacetime emergency. He also authorized the National Guard to help with emergency winter storm operations in southern Minnesota.
This storm was a big deal. It caused a lot of problems for people and disrupted daily life. It's important to stay safe and follow advice from authorities during such weather events.
