Minnesota's Winter Weekend Warning

Sun Feb 02 2025
A winter storm is going to hit Minnesota and it is time to get ready. The National Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Warning for the north shore of Lake Superior. Storms will hit hard from 10:00 a. m. on Saturday until 6:00 a. m. on Sunday. Areas around Lake Superior could see a big snow pile up. Snowfall is predicted to be between 5 and 8 inches, but some spots could see up to 10 inches. Winds will be blowing hard, with gusts up to 35 mph. This is not just about the snow. High winds and low visibility will make driving tough. Not just the north shore, but the northeastern part of Minnesota is also under a Winter Weather Advisory. This advisory will be in effect from noon on Saturday until 6:00 a. m. on Sunday. The snow will be coming down fast and heavy, with rates reaching up to half an inch per hour at times. Southeast winds will make it even harder to see. If you're planning to drive on Saturday, be prepared for low visibility and slippery roads. Snuggle up with a good book instead. Stearns, Benton, and Sherburne counties have a Special Weather Statement. Light snow will start coming in later on Saturday morning, with the heaviest snowfall expected from late morning through early to mid-afternoon. Up to 2 inches of snowfall is expected. Snow is expected to fall heavily for a few hours. This is a great time to stay indoors and enjoy some hot cocoa. The weather is going to be rough on Saturday. There will be lots of snow and strong winds. Snow and winds gusting up to 35 mph will make it hard to see and drive. Plan your day accordingly, and if you have to hit the roads, take extra care. The weather is going to be harsh. Be ready for it.
