Modern movies are missing the magic, says Tarantino
Hollywood, USAFri Jun 05 2026
Tarantino thinks movies used to be better. He used to love going to the cinema. Now he rarely enjoys new films. He says most modern movies feel empty and shallow. He calls them stupid and full of cheap tricks. He admits some films from the last few years are okay. But none truly excite him like movies once did. He prefers reading books now.
He remembers a few recent films he liked. West Side Story from 2021 made him happy. Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 1 and 2, from 2024, also pleased him. But nothing truly amazed him. He misses the feeling of being lost in a great story. He thinks movies today can’t match the magic of older films.
He praises one movie in particular. It’s called The Rip. It’s a crime thriller on Netflix. He loves its fresh idea. He likes how it was made. The acting and look of the film impressed him. But the best part was the script. He says it was smart and well-written.
He blames Hollywood’s problems on recent politics. He thinks things went downhill after 2004. He believes movies became too preachy and boring. He says they hate their audience now. He thinks they care more about pushing a message than telling a good story.
He remembers 2019 as Hollywood’s last good year. Many great movies came out then. Films like Joker, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and Uncut Gems made him happy. Since then, most movies feel like a waste of time. Even good ones are rare exceptions.
He thinks truth is the heart of good cinema. He says identity politics ruined storytelling. Movies that ignore real human truth feel fake. They can’t make people believe in their stories. He says woke ideas make movies feel dishonest. And audiences know when they’re being lied to.
