Starting your Monday morning ready to tackle the day, only to find that your Microsoft services like Outlook and Teams aren't working. That's what many users experienced when Microsoft faced an outage on Monday. The issues began around 5 a. m. ET, affecting Microsoft 365, Teams, Outlook, and the Microsoft Store.
Microsoft’s 365 Status account explained that the problem started at around 2 a. m. ET, with users having trouble accessing Exchange Online or Microsoft Teams calendar functions. A recent change by Microsoft was believed to be the culprit. By 9 a. m. ET, a fix was deployed, but it took time to reach all affected areas.
At 11 a. m. ET, Microsoft reported that the fix had reached about 90% of the affected environments. By noon, that figure jumped to 98%. However, the targeted restarts were progressing slower than expected for most users, with no immediate resolution time given.
This isn’t the first time Microsoft has faced outages. In September, another incident impacted thousands using Outlook, Teams, cloud services, Skype, and SharePoint. That time, Microsoft blamed a third-party ISP. Earlier this year, a major outage affected banks, media companies, hospitals, and airports. The issue traced back to CrowdStrike, a cybersecurity firm that pushed an update disrupting Microsoft computers. Delta Air Lines was particularly hard hit, canceling about 7, 000 flights during the summer vacation season.
So, if you're one of the many waiting for your Microsoft services to come back online, you might be in for a bit of a wait.
