A Colorado lawmaker is under the microscope for how he spent campaign cash. Rep. Ron Weinberg is being investigated for possible campaign finance rule breaks. The state's Secretary of State's Office is looking into it after another Republican lawmaker, Rep. Brandi Bradley, filed a complaint. The complaint says Weinberg spent campaign money on things that might not be allowed. This includes sponsoring a rugby team in Tel Aviv, paying for hotel stays in Denver and Blackhawk, and even buying cigars. Weinberg says he didn't do anything wrong. He claims he follows the rules and that a registered agent handles his campaign finances. Weinberg has personal ties to Israel, which is why he sponsored the rugby team. He says it was for advertising, not personal use. He also mentioned that other lawmakers have similar expenses, asking why they weren't flagged too. Bradley's complaint isn't the first time she and Weinberg have butted heads. Earlier, she accused him of making inappropriate comments and even having a master key to the Colorado Capitol. Weinberg says he's cooperating with the investigation and that his reports have been public for years. The Secretary of State's Office has until mid-December to decide if they will dismiss the complaint or take it to the next level. Weinberg says he's not hiding anything and that transparency is important to him. Weinberg has been in the Colorado House of Representatives since 2022. He won election in 2024 and is up for reelection in 2026.
