In January, Firefly Aerospace's Blue Ghost lunar lander will set off for the moon, carrying a record number of NASA payloads. This mission, dubbed Ghost Riders in the Sky, is part of NASA's Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) program. It aims to explore the moon's surface and environment using private companies.
The Blue Ghost lander, launched by SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket, will spend 60 days on its journey. It will carry 10 NASA experiments to study the moon's dust, geology, and even test new tech like radiation-resistant computers and dust-repelling systems. These findings will help NASA's Artemis program, which plans to return humans to the moon. The lander will first orbit Earth for 25 days before heading to the moon. After 16 days in lunar orbit, it will land and spend 14 Earth days on the moon's surface. During this time, it will collect data and even capture unique events like a lunar eclipse and the levitation of moon dust.
