Moon Mission Fun at the Great Lakes Science Center

Cleveland, Ohio, USAWed Apr 01 2026
The Great Lakes Science Center in Cleveland is getting ready for NASA’s Artemis II launch. The event will let people watch the pre‑launch live on April 1 at the Discovery Stage. Visitors can follow the countdown and see what happens as the mission prepares to leave Earth. Artemis II will carry four astronauts on a ten‑day trip around the moon. It is the first time humans have gone beyond low‑Earth orbit since Apollo in 1972. The Science Center will show the live feed all day, stopping only at 1:30 p. m. for its Big Science Show. From 1:30 to 5 p. m. , guests can explore the Apollo capsule gallery. STEM teachers will explain the spacecraft, the crew, and why the lunar flyby matters. They’ll answer any questions visitors have about space travel.
The center keeps the excitement going all month with space‑themed events. On Sundays, April 5, 12 and 19, families can join “Go for Launch! Design A Rocket. ” They build rubber‑band rockets and test how far they fly. The workshop costs $5 for materials. The biggest highlight is April 18–19, when the center hosts “Over the Moon. ” Activities include a live math show called “Liftoff: Math in Space, ” a lunar scavenger hunt, and talks by experts. Visitors can also try augmented reality with NASA Glenn Research Center and see astronaut food and vacuum demos. The goal is to make space science accessible and fun for everyone. People of all ages can learn about physics, engineering, and the history of space exploration while enjoying hands‑on projects. The center hopes to spark curiosity about future missions and the mysteries of the moon.
