Morning Coffee: A Surprising Lifesaver?
New Orleans, USAFri Jan 10 2025
Did you know that your cup of morning joe might be doing more for you than just waking you up? A recent study from Tulane University found that people who drink two to three cups of coffee in the morning have a lower risk of dying from any cause or from heart disease compared to those who don’t drink coffee at all. Interestingly, the same benefits weren’t seen in people who sipped coffee throughout the day.
The study looked at over 42, 000 adults over nine years. It’s the first time researchers have shown that when you drink coffee matters just as much as how much. Drinking coffee in the morning aligns with our body’s natural rhythm, which helps us stay focused during the day and rest well at night. Experts say this could be why morning coffee drinkers had better health outcomes.
However, the study didn’t look at how people prepared their coffee or what they added to it. Some ingredients, like sugar and cream, can undo coffee’s health benefits. Also, everyone’s body processes caffeine differently, so coffee’s effects can vary. While moderate coffee consumption has numerous health perks, it’s not suitable for everyone, especially those with heart conditions or high blood pressure.
If you’re wondering if your coffee habit is good for you, it’s best to talk to your doctor. They can give you personalized advice based on your health profile.
