Motorola has recently unveiled the latest updates to its Moto G series, including the Moto G and Moto G Power. The standout feature of the Moto G Power is its impressive IP69 water-resistance rating, costing just $299. 99. This means it can handle submersion in water, high-pressure water jets, and steam, as well as dust. Previously, this level of protection was found mainly in bulky rugged phones. The OnePlus 13, which also has this rating, costs three times as much. The Moto G Power also passed the MIL-STD-810H certification, similar to Lenovo's 2023 ThinkPhone. This certification means it can survive falls from nearly four feet, extreme temperatures from -4°F to 140°F, and high humidity up to 95%. While this level of durability might be overkill for most users, it certainly offers peace of mind. Despite its toughness, the new G Power is surprisingly slim at less than 9mm thick. It's not a small phone, though, with a 6. 8-inch LCD display protected by Gorilla Glass 5. This size is comparable to Samsung's Galaxy S24 Ultra. Inside, there's a large 5, 000mAh battery and wireless charging, plus a 3. 5mm headphone jack, which is a rare feature in 2025. The Moto G Power's sibling, the Moto G, looks similar but has a slightly smaller 6. 7-inch display and less robust IP52 protection with Gorilla Glass 3. Both phones use the same MediaTek chipset and 50-megapixel rear camera, so performance should be similar if the extra durability isn't needed. However, a lingering concern is the software. The 2024 Moto G Power impressed with its hardware but was marred by excessive pre-installed bloatware. Hopefully, Motorola has addressed this issue in the latest version.
