In France, a music festival turned into a scene of concern when over a hundred people were jabbed with syringes. This happened during the annual Fête de la Musique, where millions gathered to enjoy live music and performances. The French Interior Ministry reported that 145 people were affected, with 13 cases in Paris alone. Authorities arrested at least 12 suspects linked to these incidents. In Metz, a city in northeastern France, the situation was particularly alarming. The mayor, François Grosdidier, shared on Instagram that two individuals were arrested, including one suspected syringe attacker. The attacks began around 9:15 p. m. , targeting 15 young women aged 14 to 20. The mayor expressed hope that the investigation would uncover more attackers through evidence from the suspect's phone. The nature of these attacks raises questions. Officials did not confirm if they were cases of needle spiking, where attackers inject drugs like Rohypnol or GHB to disorient victims. This practice leaves victims vulnerable to further harm. The first warnings about these attacks came from a social media influencer, Abrège Soeur, who urged women to use the code "H&M" to signal danger. This code was meant to help women in distress seek help discreetly. This year's festival season has brought back fears of syringe attacks, similar to incidents in 2022. Back then, the French government issued alerts advising people to stay alert and report any suspicious activity. Over 370 people were arrested during that year's festival, with nearly 90 in Paris. Among the seriously injured was a 17-year-old who was hospitalized due to severe wounds. Music festivals are supposed to be a time of joy and celebration.
