A Pennsylvania judge recently ruled that Elon Musk's daily $1 million giveaway to voters can keep running. This isn't a game-changer though, since the giveaway ends tomorrow on Election Day. Philadelphia's District Attorney, Larry Krasner, argued that this sweepstakes violates state lottery laws, but the judge disagreed.
The dispute isn't over yet. Krasner's legal team called Musk's team "shady, " and Musk's lawyers hit back, saying Krasner is violating free speech. They say winners aren't picked randomly; they're chosen for being good spokespeople for Musk's super PAC.
Musk's advisor, Chris Young, explained they aim to compensate registered voters, not foreigners or those with bad intentions. However, the Justice Department warned the sweepstakes might break federal voting laws.
Legal expert Derek Muller thinks Young's testimony could be used if federal charges are filed later. For now, the giveaway stands.
