Mysterious Lights Over Duluth: What Were They?

Duluth, USAWed Nov 06 2024
Last Wednesday night, just before Halloween, Duluth residents spotted an unusual sight in the sky. An object, described as having a green glow, silently moved across the night sky. A video shared by a friend from upper Lincoln Park showed this peculiar event. People took to Reddit to discuss and figure out what they had seen. Some suggested it could be a meteor or a comet, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Witnesses reported that the object vanished suddenly, as if it disappeared into thin air. While it might seem like a UFO, there's a simpler explanation. Ken Hayes, who has a keen interest in Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAPs), believes it's essential to rule out common misidentifications. He thinks the object was likely a Starlink satellite. Starlink satellites are known for their frequent appearances in the night sky and their peculiar vanishing act. A friend who shared the video checked online for Starlink satellite tracks, but the tracker isn't always up-to-date. Sure enough, checking today reveals that a Starlink satellite is on a path through Northern Minnesota. The reason the object in the video seems to disappear is that it reaches a point where it no longer reflects light. Starlink satellites don't have their own bright lights, which is why they appear to vanish. These satellites move in a consistent speed and direction, making them easy to identify. It's important to consider all possibilities before jumping to conclusions about UFOs.
