Napa Airport Tests New Flight Route to Reduce City Noise

Napa County, California, USAFri Jun 19 2026
The county has rolled out a fresh website for residents to weigh in on a new airplane route that could cut noise over Napa. Visitors can vote on how they want to be involved and learn the project’s timeline. The site also explains why the plan matters and what else is happening nearby. A contractor named Coffman Associates Inc. is leading the effort. Last year, the airport added a “fair weather” path that keeps planes on course even when the sky is clear. The change was meant to make landings safer in bad weather, but it also pushes planes south over the valley.
That route brings extra sound to neighborhoods along Soscol Avenue. Community complaints about noise grew in 2025 after the new guided path was approved. Now the county wants a different route for clear weather that might keep planes farther from homes. If the Federal Aviation Administration signs off on it, the old path would stay in use for other conditions. The goal is to balance safety with quieter skies for Napa’s residents. Officials hope the new plan will bring relief without compromising flight operations.
