In a move to prioritize consumer safety, Neutrogena has decided to pull some of its makeup wipes from stores. The reason? A sneaky bacteria was found lurking in certain batches. This isn't just any bacteria, though. It's a tough one that can resist common preservatives used in cosmetics.
The company, based in New Jersey, took action after the FDA raised concerns. They're calling it a Class II recall, which means the wipes could cause some health issues, but serious problems are unlikely. It's like a yellow traffic light—caution is needed, but it's not a full stop.
The affected wipes were mostly sold in Texas, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. If you've got a pack at home, check the lot number: 1835U6325A. If it matches, it's best to toss them out.
Now, this isn't the first time a personal care product has been recalled for this type of bacteria. Earlier this year, a hair care brand had to pull some of its shampoo off the shelves for the same reason.
The bacteria in question, Pluralibacter gergoviae, is usually found in water and soil. It's rare to cause infections, but it can be serious for people with weak immune systems or other health conditions. So, while the risk is low, it's better to be safe than sorry.
The company hasn't found out how the bacteria got into the wipes, and there haven't been any reports of illnesses linked to them. Still, they're taking this seriously and pulling the product as a precaution.
