New Art, Food and Nature Events in Valparaiso and Beyond
Northwest Indiana, United StatesTue Jun 23 2026
Valpo’s creative scene gets a fresh start when the Art + Innovation reception for “Portrait + Free Flow Colorations” moves to July 15. The show stays on display until the end of July at Roots Café and Lower Lincoln, but guests now meet the artists at 5 p. m. in the café before heading to Lower Lincoln for deeper conversations about their work and lives. A salsa group will dance, and tourism officials will talk about the upcoming Mural Walk Trail that ties local art to the city’s heritage.
Across town, Calumet Township rolls out a mobile food truck to fight hunger. On Thursday morning, residents can register at Beacon Light Community Church and grab a free meal before 11 a. m. The program opens to anyone from Gary or the surrounding township, but only one bag per household and ID is required. The drive runs on a first‑come basis while supplies last.
Indiana Dunes Tourism partners with arts nonprofits to open a new cultural trail that visitors can explore through an app. The trail, launched during the Sand + Steel Art Fest, features 14 local spots where people can collect themed postcards. By checking in digitally, tourists can learn about museums, theaters and galleries that they might otherwise miss while visiting the beaches.
The Lake County Master Gardeners host a self‑guided walk called “Pollinating Pathways” on Sunday. Visitors stroll through seven private gardens that support pollinators and connect with nature at their own pace. Gardeners will be on hand to answer questions, and tickets are $15, available at local businesses or online.
Fresh Start Markets in Northwest Indiana offer summer safety workshops while providing groceries to those in need. Three events are scheduled: one on July 1 in Michigan City, another on July 21 in Crown Point, and a final one on July 22 in Munster. Participants receive free food like hamburger patties, hot dogs and watermelons, plus lessons on water safety, fireworks, vaping and more. The markets are funded by the Franciscan Health Foundation and the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana, and donations can be made online or by phone.
These local initiatives show how art, food, culture and nature can come together to strengthen communities and give people new ways to learn and connect.
