Peacock has greenlit a fresh crime drama that will be called Superfakes, and the network has just revealed who will steer its creative vision. The series was signed onto NBCU in January 2025, and now it is clear that Jim McKay, Karena Evans and Andrij Parekh will all take turns behind the camera. McKay will handle the opening episode and a number of later installments, while Evans will direct the pilot and also serve as an executive producer. All three will be credited on the show’s production board. Lucy Liu leads the main cast of Superfakes, with other actors such as Ken Leung, Bohan Phoenix, Michelle Lee Jones and Keith Leung joining her in key roles. The plot follows a modest Chinatown luxury counterfeit dealer who dives into a shady black‑market world to secure a tidy future for her family and keep them close to suburban life. The show’s tone is expected to blend suspense with humor, drawing on the vibrant energy of its setting. McKay brings experience from Season 3 of Paramount+ hit Tulsa King as well as from Apple TV’s Smoke, HBO Max’s American Rust, and earlier work on Breaking Bad, Mr. Robot, The Americans and Better Call Saul. Evans has a history of directing on shows like P‑Valley, Snowfall, Dead Ringers, Mr. and Mrs. Smith and the HBO Max version of Gossip Girl. She won the 2018 Prism Prize Lipsett Award as well as awards for Drake’s God’s Plan, and was the first woman to receive that honor in 2018.
Parekh earned an Emmy for outstanding directing on Succession in 2020 and a nomination again for its final season in 2024; he has also directed episodes of HBO shows like Watchmen and House of the Dragon, plus a filmography that includes Half Nelson, Mississippi Grind, Blue Valentine and Roofman. The team is represented by Verve (McKay), CAA with Taj Critchlow/Karoshi Management & Granderson Des Rochers (Evans) and Linden Entertainment/Murtha Skouras Agency (Parekh). The series will also see the involvement of writer‑showrunner Alice Ju, who will oversee production along with executive producers Josh Safdie, Benny Safdie, Howard Klein and Olivia Gerke from 3 Arts. Additional executive producers include Ronald Bronstein and Eli Bush; A24 and UCP are the main production partners. With this blend of seasoned directors and a tight cast lineup, Superfakes looks set to deliver a distinctive blend of crime drama and community‑driven storytelling that will keep viewers guessing about Chinatown’s underbelts.
