Indiana has seen some fresh faces stepping into important roles recently. Adam L. Mildred, a seasoned prosecutor from Fort Wayne, has been officially sworn in as the new U. S. Attorney for the Northern District of Indiana. His journey to this position was marked by a nomination from President Donald J. Trump and a confirmation by the Senate last December. With degrees from Indiana University Bloomington and IU’s Maurer School of Law, Mildred brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having spent his entire career in professional prosecution. In other news, Franciscan Health Crown Point is gearing up to host a DONA International Birth Doula workshop. This workshop, spread over two weekends in February and March, aims to train professionals who provide crucial support to expectant mothers. The sessions will run from 8:30 a. m. to 6:30 p. m. on specified dates, and participants must attend all four days to receive a certificate. This initiative highlights the growing recognition of the importance of doulas in the birthing process, offering both physical and emotional support to mothers.
Governor Mike Braun has also made some notable appointments. Chuck Williams from C. L. Williams and Companies in Porter County has been added to the Lake County Convention Center Authority, with his term set to run through June 30, 2027. Additionally, Christopher Gamblin from the Lowell Fire Department has joined the Board of Firefighting Personnel Standards and Education, with his term expiring on October 31, 2028. These appointments reflect the ongoing efforts to bring in experienced individuals to key state boards. Franciscan Health is also extending a helping hand to stroke survivors and their families. They are offering monthly free stroke support groups in both Crown Point and Michigan City. These groups provide a safe space for survivors, families, and caregivers to share their experiences and gain support. The Michigan City group meets on the second Tuesday of each month, while the Crown Point group meets on different days during the first week of every other month. These initiatives underscore the importance of community support in the recovery process. Lastly, Munster Steel has shown a commendable commitment to animal welfare by making a $50, 000 donation to Humane Indiana. This leadership-level partnership will help fund lifesaving care for animals and the people who love them. The donation is part of Humane Indiana’s 2026 Annual Sponsorship Program, highlighting the role of corporate social responsibility in community welfare.
