New Faces in Healthcare and Community Support

In a move to bolster local healthcare services, Franciscan Physician Network has welcomed two new doctors. Dr. Ailia Ali, a rheumatologist, is now seeing patients in Dyer, while Dr. Leena Aljobeh, a family medicine physician, has started accepting new patients in Valparaiso. Both doctors bring a wealth of experience and education to their new roles, with Dr. Ali completing her fellowship in rheumatology at the University of Chicago and Dr. Aljobeh finishing her residency in family medicine at Indiana University Health Arnett Hospital.
Meanwhile, the Lake County Courts have expanded their volunteer advocate program for seniors and incapacitated adults. Four new advocates were recently sworn in, bringing the total number of volunteers to support vulnerable individuals in legal proceedings. This program, a collaboration between the court and Franciscan Health, is funded by various grants and donations, ensuring that those who need assistance can access it.
In other news, the Society of Innovators at Purdue Northwest has announced the winners of the 2025 Innovators Awards. The honorees include a mix of individuals and organizations from various fields, such as education, business, and community service. The awards ceremony will take place at a luncheon on October 29, providing an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of these innovators.
The community is also coming together to support storm relief efforts. The Legacy Foundation has partnered with the bp Foundation to provide grants to organizations affected by the August storms and flooding. Up to $5, 000 per organization will be available to help with recovery and preparedness for future weather-related emergencies.
For high school and college students interested in attending a U. S. military service academy, applications are now being accepted. U. S. Rep. Frank J. Mrvan has announced that the Indiana’s First Congressional District is currently reviewing applications from students who aspire to attend one of the academies. The deadline for submissions is November 3.
Lastly, Purdue University Northwest is hosting College Goal Sunday on November 9. This free event will assist college-bound students and their families in applying for financial aid. Financial aid professionals will be on hand to help with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which is crucial for students to be considered for various forms of financial assistance.
