New Food & Fun Boosts Glastonbury’s Old Shopping Hub

The Shops at Somerset Square, a 40‑year‑old open‑air center in Glastonbury, is shaking up its image by adding six fresh restaurants and services. The move follows a 2022 purchase by Poag Shopping Centers, which wants to turn the once‑upscale spot into a lively local hotspot. Instead of just filling empty spaces, the new tenants are chosen to draw people in and keep them there. The plan mixes quick bites, fast‑casual spots, pizza places, dessert shops and even a massage parlor. This variety aims to attract both regional visitors and nearby office workers, hotel guests, and residents who live around Somerset Square. Milestone Restaurant, a local favorite that opened in 2014 and now has two locations, will return to the former Max Amore spot in early 2027. Owner Peter Fine says the choice reflects the area’s long‑standing “soulful” dining vibe. He sees strong potential in Glastonbury’s diverse population, good parking and easy highway access. Milestone will offer quality food, craft cocktails, live music and a relaxed “second living room” feel.Other new spots include Tiger Belly Noodle & Sushi Bar, a ramen and pho specialist; Colony Grill, a classic pizza tavern that started in 1935; CAVA, a Mediterranean fast‑casual chain; Cold Stone Creamery, known for its made‑to‑order ice cream; and Aroma Body & Foot Massage, offering therapeutic treatments. These add nearly 18, 000 square feet of new leased space and are expected to boost foot traffic from summer 2026 through early 2027. The owners hope that more visitors will support existing shops like Chico’s, Chipotle and Harvey & Lewis. Outdoor patio areas are being redesigned to encourage pedestrians to linger, creating a more community‑friendly atmosphere. While local officials have not commented publicly, the new tenants’ arrival is seen as a sign of economic revitalization for Glastonbury.
