New Glass Vial Factory Boosts U. S. Vaccine Supply
Lebanon, Pennsylvania, USA,Tue Jun 23 2026
"The factory in Lebanon County, Pennsylvania, has just finished a $60 million upgrade that lets it make more than 200 new jobs and triple its output of glass vials used in life‑saving medicines. The plant, owned by a German company that specializes in pharmaceutical glass, now runs two new lines that produce both standard and sterile ready‑to‑use vials. These containers can hold everything from vaccines to complex injectable drugs used in hospitals.
The expansion includes many new converting machines for borosilicate glass, which is strong and chemically stable. The company also added modern infrastructure and new technology to keep the production lines running smoothly. According to a statement from the U. S. president of the company, the new equipment will strengthen the country’s supply chain and help ensure that patients have access to critical treatments.
More than $60 million was spent on the project, with roughly $38 million coming from a federal health agency that supports advanced research. This funding helped make the expansion possible and shows the government’s interest in keeping essential drug packaging domestically produced.
Only two Schott Pharma sites worldwide can make a special type of vial called Everic pure. These vials are known for their durability and precise size, which keep drugs stable over time. The new lines in Pennsylvania will help meet growing demand for such high‑quality packaging.
State officials, including the governor and the department of community development, cut a ribbon to celebrate the opening. They said the project will keep more than 200 jobs in the area and improve local economic growth.
The facility has a history of supporting national health efforts. During the COVID‑19 pandemic, its glass vials were used in about 75 percent of vaccine projects that received federal support. Now, with the upgraded plant, it is better positioned to handle future medical needs.
The factory sits on Lebanon Valley Parkway in South Lebanon Township, a location that has become an important hub for pharmaceutical manufacturing in the region. "
