New Jersey is in for a rough night and morning. A big storm is coming, bringing strong winds and lots of rain. The worst part? It's happening during the morning rush hour on Friday.
Starting Thursday night, winds will pick up. They could gust up to 45 mph, which is strong enough to knock over trees and power lines. That means some people might lose power. Rain will also be heavy, especially between 5 a. m. and 9 a. m. on Friday. Most places will get about an inch of rain, but flooding isn't expected to be too bad.
The winds will be the biggest problem. They'll start late Thursday night, blowing from the south at 30 to 40 mph. After the storm passes around Friday morning, the winds will shift and could gust up to 50 mph. This could cause more damage, especially since the ground will be wet and trees could fall more easily.
Temperatures will be weird during this storm. They'll actually go up overnight, reaching the 50s and even low 60s in some places. But once the storm passes, temperatures will drop fast. By Friday evening, they'll be in the upper 30s and low 40s, and it'll keep getting colder overnight, dropping to the mid-20s.
The good news is that the storm will clear out by Saturday. Winds will calm down, and it'll be dry. But don't get too comfortable. Another cold front is coming on Sunday, bringing more wind. Then on Monday, a frigid air mass will move in, making it feel really cold with highs only in the low 30s.
There's more rain and possibly snow in the forecast for Tuesday, but it shouldn't be too bad. The rest of the week looks dry, but who knows what will happen later on.
