New Lawyer Joins Probe of Former CIA Head
Miami, Florida, USA,Sat Apr 18 2026
The U. S. Justice Department has added a former attorney from President Trump’s team to the investigation of ex‑CIA chief John Brennan. The move comes after a senior prosecutor in Miami stepped away from the case, sparking questions about the pace of the inquiry. Brennan, a frequent commentator on cable news and outspoken critic of Trump, has dismissed the probe as politically motivated.
The lawyer, Joseph diGenova, is known for his work on Trump‑related legal matters. He will now collaborate with the Justice Department’s office in the Southern District of Florida on the Brennan investigation. DiGenova has a history of representing Trump during the Mueller probe into Russian election interference and later in efforts to challenge the 2020 vote count.
Witness interviews are slated for the coming weeks, with about six former intelligence officials expected to be questioned. Some of these interviews are not scheduled until June, according to sources inside the department. A DOJ spokesperson noted that internal frustration has risen over how slowly progress is being made.
The Attorney General’s office, headed by Todd Blanche, has faced pressure to pursue cases against individuals perceived as political enemies of Trump. This follows the removal of Pam Bondi, who was criticized for her handling of investigations requested by the former president.
DiGenova’s firm and the Justice Department have not yet commented on his appointment. Brennan’s legal team has previously argued that there is no legitimate basis for the investigation, a claim that remains unchallenged in court.
The addition of diGenova to the case raises concerns about potential conflicts and the impartiality of the inquiry. Observers warn that involving a lawyer with close ties to Trump could undermine public confidence in the Department’s commitment to unbiased justice.
