New Leader Takes Charge of Media, Sports and Entertainment Cases

Jill Basinger has moved to Stris & Maher LLP, where she will head the Media, Entertainment and Sports Litigation team out of Los Angeles. She plans to use the firm’s national reach to help clients across the country. Before this, Jill spent more than ten years at Glaser Weil LLP as a partner. She handled cases for actors, producers, broadcasters and other people in the entertainment world. Her work covered defamation, contracts, profit‑sharing disputes, privacy issues and intellectual property. She also dealt with employee moves and sensitive investigations that drew public attention. During her time at Glaser Weil, Jill worked closely with trial lawyer Patty Glaser. Together they represented high‑profile names such as Snoop Dogg, Keith Olbermann and Bill Gross of ICM and PIMCO. These cases often carried big reputational risks and required sharp legal strategy.Jill says that disputes in media, entertainment and sports are different from typical law‑firm work. “They need quick decisions, industry knowledge and a clear plan to win, ” she explains. She believes Stris & Maher is the right place for that kind of work. After leaving Glaser Weil, Jill became the first Chief Legal Officer at Discovery Land Company. There she oversaw all legal strategy for a global developer of luxury residential communities and resorts. She advised on complex litigation, corporate governance, major deals and regulatory matters.
