New Tech Helps Keep Morgan County Schools Safe

Morgan County now uses a new gadget that checks for weapons at school doors. The system, called Xtract One Gateway, was put in five high schools first: Brewer, Falkville, Priceville, West Morgan and Danville. It works by letting people walk through without stopping; the machine looks for any dangerous items automatically. The district chose this model because it uses smart AI. That means the device can spot weapons quickly while still keeping the entry smooth for students and visitors. School leaders say they wanted a system that feels friendly, not scary. They want classrooms to stay places where learning happens, not just security checkpoints.Superintendent Tracie Turrentine explained that the main goal is to protect everyone while keeping schools welcoming. She said the new technology gives families, teachers and staff confidence that safety is taken seriously without making the environment feel off. The hope is that students can go about their day without feeling like they are in a police station. After the first five schools, the plan is to bring the same system into all 18 public schools in Morgan County. That means every student, no matter which school they attend, will benefit from the same level of protection. The district believes that spreading the technology now will make future upgrades easier and keep the community safer. The choice of a positive, student‑focused approach shows that technology can be used to support learning environments.
