New York Giants part ways with quarterback Daniel Jones
New York City, USASat Nov 23 2024
Daniel Jones will no longer be leading the New York Giants after a lackluster six seasons. The team, looking at a dismal 2-8 record this season, has decided to cut ties with their once-promising quarterback. The decision came after Jones, demoted to fourth-string this week, asked for his release.
John Mara, the Giants president, shared his thoughts. "Daniel is a great representative of our team, always professional. We're just disappointed with the results. " The Giants went 24-45-1 with Jones at the helm.
Jones, selected sixth overall in 2019, signed a massive $160 million contract after his best year, leading the team to the playoffs. But injuries and poor performance derailed his progress. The team might be clearing cap space for a new quarterback in the next draft.
In a media session, Jones seemed philosophical about his situation. "Football is a business, " he said, "and we weren't getting results. " The 27-year-old will face an uncertain future, with the Giants looking to move on.
