New York Marathon: Sifan Hassan's Big Challenge
The 2025 TCS New York City Marathon is here, and all eyes are on Sifan Hassan.
This isn't her first rodeo, but it is her first time running in New York. Hassan, who is 32 years old, has already won the Sydney Marathon just two months ago. Now, she's aiming to win again in New York, which would be a huge deal.
The Challenge Ahead
But it won't be easy. The New York course is known for its bridges and hills, which can be tough on runners. Hassan has the best time among the competitors, with a personal best of 2 hours and 13 minutes from the Chicago Marathon last year. Still, she knows the course is no joke. She even said she was scared after seeing how hard it was last year.
Respecting the Competition
Hassan isn't taking this lightly. She respects the course and the other runners. She's not making any promises about winning. The competition is fierce, with past champions like Sheila Chepkirui, Hellen Obiri, and Sharon Lokedi also in the mix. These women have all won the New York Marathon in recent years and know how to handle the challenge.
Making History
If Hassan does win, she'll make history. No American woman has won the race since 2017. The top American runners this year are Emily Sisson, who holds the U.S. record, and Molly Seidel, who won bronze in the Tokyo Olympics. They'll be fighting hard to bring the title back to the U.S.
The Reward
Hassan has a fun plan for after the race: her first slice of New York pizza. Whether she wins or not, she's sure to enjoy that reward. The marathon is a big deal, but it's also about having fun and pushing yourself to the limit.
