As the NFL regular season comes to a close, teams are making big decisions. Known as "Black Monday, " today is when head coaches and general managers (GMs) might be shown the door. Teams that didn't make the playoffs are reviewing their performance and deciding if changes are needed. Let's dive into who's been fired and who might be next.
The New England Patriots are already on the hunt for a new head coach, with their eyes on the Detroit Lions' offensive coordinator, Ben Johnson. The New Orleans Saints are also looking, with Aaron Glenn and Kellen Moore on their radar. The Chicago Bears are busy with interview requests, including a Vikings defensive coordinator.
Over on the East Coast, the New York Jets are showing interest in Brian Flores, a former Dolphins head coach. They're also considering Josh McCown, a Vikings quarterback coach, and Mike Greenberg, an assistant GM from Tampa Bay. The Seattle Seahawks let go of their offensive coordinator, Ryan Grubb, who was in his first NFL season.
Meanwhile, the Cincinnati Bengals are making changes to their coaching staff. They've let go of defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo and several other assistant coaches. The New York Giants are keeping their head coach, Brian Daboll, and GM, Joe Schoen. The Jacksonville Jaguars, however, are parting ways with their head coach, Doug Pederson.
Early rumors suggest more changes could be coming. The Dallas Cowboys' head coach, Mike McCarthy, might be let go when his contract runs out. The Miami Dolphins are keeping their head coach, Mike McDaniel, and GM, Chris Grier, despite a disappointing season. The New England Patriots fired their head coach, Jerod Mayo, after a rough season.
In-season changes were also made. The Chicago Bears, New Orleans Saints, and New York Jets all let go of their head coaches and, in the Jets' case, their GM as well.
