Reggaeton star Nicky Jam has stepped back from his endorsement of former President Donald Trump. This decision came after comedian Tony Hinchcliffe made derogatory remarks about Puerto Rico at a Trump rally in New York City. Jam, whose real name is Nick Rivera Caminero, had previously appeared with Trump at a campaign rally in Las Vegas. During that event, Trump mistakenly referred to Jam as a woman.
Jam initially backed Trump, believing he would be good for the economy. However, Hinchcliffe's comment about Puerto Rico being a "floating island of garbage" was the last straw. Jam took to Instagram to express his disappointment, renouncing his support for Trump and emphasizing the need for respect towards Puerto Rico.
The comedian's remarks sparked outrage among Puerto Rican communities, especially in key states like Pennsylvania and North Carolina. The Trump campaign tried to distance itself from the comments, stating that they do not reflect the views of Trump or his campaign.
Other prominent Puerto Rican artists, including Bad Bunny, Ricky Martin, and Jennifer Lopez, have also spoken out against Hinchcliffe's remarks. Singer Marc Anthony went a step further, endorsing Kamala Harris for president and recalling Trump's controversial response to Hurricane Maria.
