At around 8:27 pm on Thursday, a suspected tornado struck small communities in Morgan County, East Tennessee, causing severe damage during the winter storm event impact across the eastern US.
It's a tragic event, a mother, and a daughter, both died in a family home. Other tornadoes in February don't make it any easier to comprehend.
Three other people got hurt, you know. Morgan County has seen its fair share of deadly tornados too.
The storm hit hard, just after 8:30 pm, when experts will verify the cause. They are sending a team from the National Weather Service.
A a team of 100+ responders were working tirelessly to support the town.
About 9% of residents woke up to no power, prove how serious the event is. Tornadoes at night are much more deadly.
In a broader context, Morgan County had to deal with the storm, blowing in high speed winds.
This tornado event, if confirmed, would be the first deadly one of 2025. It also would have been the first event that killed residents who knew tornado safety measures, but is not unheard.
Sunday morning at 8:30am confirmed the lights were out for many residents.
The US saw 20 tornadoes this year alone.
Tornadoes have touched down 16 times since 1965. The last impactful tornado in Morgan County was a F3 in 2002, killing seven, 20 miles from Deer Lodge.
20 miles southeast of Deer lodge, another tornado would happen in 2025.
Tennessee usually sees around three tornados in February, which is half of what's typically seen in April and May.
February last year saw a total of 45 tornadoes, how far this event is off the radar.
