North London's Mob Drama Takes the World by Storm
North LondonTue Jun 24 2025
A new crime drama has taken the streaming world by storm, and it's not from the usual suspects. MobLand, a show about rival crime families in North London, has become a massive hit for Paramount+. The series, which started on March 30, had the biggest premiere in the platform's history with 2. 2 million viewers. It has since racked up over 26 million viewers worldwide and spent more than a month in the top 10 for original series.
So, what makes MobLand stand out? It's not just another gangster story. The show dives deep into family dynamics, power struggles, and the emotional baggage that comes with a life of crime. Pierce Brosnan plays Conrad Harrigan, the head of a crime family looking to expand into the fentanyl trade. Tom Hardy plays Harry Da Souza, Conrad's loyal fixer, who brings a quiet intensity to the role. Helen Mirren steals the show as Maeve, Conrad's cunning wife with her own agenda.
The series is created by Ronan Bennett and written by Jez Butterworth, with Guy Ritchie serving as executive producer. Ritchie's style is evident in the show's editing, monologues, and sudden bursts of violence. But MobLand is more than just style. It's a show that surprises with its emotional depth, bringing humanity to characters who could easily be caricatures.
The cast is rounded out by Paddy Considine, Lara Pulver, Joanne Froggatt, and Jasmine Jobson, who all bring their own unique flair to the tangled web of family drama and criminal intrigue. The show's success has led to Paramount+ greenlighting a second season, with the network's Co-CEO Chris McCarthy calling it a "resounding triumph. "
