North Texas Weather Alert: More Storms on the Way

Texas, USATue May 20 2025
North Texas has been hit hard by severe weather recently, and it's not over yet. The National Weather Service in Fort Worth has warned of more severe storms expected to roll through the region on Monday afternoon and evening. The counties north of Interstate 20 are bracing for the worst, with the highest risk of severe weather between 4 p. m. and 10 p. m. This includes the potential for hail and damaging winds, which were already seen over the weekend. The risk of a tornado is also present, particularly near the Texas-Oklahoma border, close to Sherman and Paris. The weather service issued a tornado watch for counties north and west of the metro area just before 2 p. m. This watch will remain in effect until 9 p. m. , bringing with it the possibility of damaging winds and large hail. It's crucial for residents to stay alert and prepared, as additional tornado watches may be issued later in the day, potentially affecting the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The weekend saw significant storm damage, with survey teams confirming five tornadoes that touched down on Sunday night. Most of these tornadoes were in Palo Pinto County. The strongest was an EF-1 near Gordon, with wind speeds reaching up to 105 mph. Other tornadoes in Eastland County and Palo Pinto County were less intense, classified as EF-0 or unknown due to lack of access for rating. Wind damage, flash flooding, and even a funnel cloud were reported in Denton County, highlighting the widespread impact of the storms. After Monday, North Texas can expect a brief respite from the rain. Drier, cooler air is forecasted to move in, bringing temperatures down to the low 80s on Tuesday. This change will be welcome news for residents who have been dealing with the recent severe weather. The forecast for the following days includes mostly sunny skies and warm temperatures, with a slight chance of showers or thunderstorms on Thursday. It's a good time to reflect on the importance of being prepared for sudden weather changes, especially in a region known for its unpredictable climate. The weather patterns in North Texas are a reminder of the power of nature. While the immediate threat of severe storms may pass, it's essential to stay informed and ready for whatever comes next. Residents should take this opportunity to review their emergency plans and ensure they have the necessary supplies on hand. After all, being prepared can make all the difference when facing the unpredictable.
