Nvidia's New RTX 50-Series GPUs: Powerful, Pricey, and Coming Soon
Las Vegas, USATue Jan 07 2025
Nvidia has taken the wraps off its latest line of graphics cards, the RTX 50-series. These new GPUs are mighty, costly, and have a hefty appetite for energy. The lineup includes the RTX 5070, 5070 Ti, 5080, and the top-tier RTX 5090. This is the first time Nvidia is releasing a “titanium” edition card alongside the main ones.
The RTX 5090 comes with a hefty price tag of $2, 000, making it the most expensive GPU from Nvidia yet. The RTX 5070 is priced at $550, the 5070 Ti at $750, and the 5080 at $1, 000.
Nvidia's CEO, Jensen Huang, presented the new cards at the Michelob Ultra arena. He emphasized the role of AI in the new GPUs' performance. For example, he claimed that the RTX 5070, even when used in a laptop, can match the performance of the previous RTX 4090, thanks to Tensor cores and AI support.
The RTX 5090 is a beast, boasting 380 RT TFLOPS, 125 shader TFLOPS, and a memory bandwidth of 1. 8 TB/s. It's about 50% more powerful than the previous monster, the RTX 4090.
There's also a new AI-driven software suite called DLSS 4, which includes updated models for ray reconstruction and super resolution.
These new cards are expected to hit the market within a few weeks. However, there's no mention of more affordable options yet. We'll have to wait a bit longer for the RTX 5050, 5060, and 5060 Ti.
